The international trade fair for alpine technology has good reason to celebrate: INTERALPIN is turning 50. This small event, which started in 1974, has grown over five decades to become the most important meeting place for the ropeway industry. The 25th edition of the biennial trade fair will take place in 2025. From 6 to 9 May 2025, the event will once again turn Messe Innsbruck into the centre of maximum interest for the leading companies in the cableway and alpine technology industry, welcoming professionals from more than 130 nations.
INTERALPIN: a success story A look at the beginnings shows how quickly INTERALPIN has grown. Within just a few years, what was initially a small exhibition turned into an expanding format, in demand all over the world.
In 1974, the Kurhaus Igls, now part of CMI as Congresspark Igls, hosted a small presentation of products from the ropeway industry as part of the then international ski slope congress, the “Internationalen Schipistenkongress”.
The following year, an exhibition called INTERALPIN was organised in Innsbruck’s Congress Hall. In 1977, it was held for the first time as an independent event with the subtitle “Winter Service Equipment Exhibition”, with 72 exhibitors and an audience from over 20 nations. The number of exhibitors rose to 84 in 1978 and to 120 in 1980. “Since then, the success of INTERALPIN has been unstoppable. With the arrival of the new millennium in 2002, the Innsbruck Congress Centre proved too small and INTERALPIN moved to Messe Innsbruck, where it is still held today and continues to grow,’ explains project manager Stefan Kleinlercher. In 2023 INTERALPIN registered more than 35,000 professionals from 130 nations and around 650 exhibitors from over 50 countries.
The anniversary: an opportunity to look into the future
From 6 to 9 May 2025, INTERALPIN will once again provide the platform for the latest innovations and hot topics in the industry. On the opening day, the Austrian Ski Lift Operators Conference will take place, which will also include the opening ceremony. The first day will end in celebration with the INTER ALPIN “Snow Crystal Gala”.
The INTERALPIN Inspiration Days will take place on the second and third day, highlighting and discussing the most current topics in the industry with keynotes and speeches by top experts. Also not to be missed are the general meeting and seminar of the International Organisation for Transportation by Rope (OITAF). “The Alpine technology and ropeway industry is very dynamic, change-oriented and future-oriented. The 50th anniversary of INTERALPIN is an opportunity not only to reflect on the past, but above all to think about future developments.
The 25th INTERALPIN in 2025 will shine the spotlight on the most important topics for the industry of today and tomorrow. The INTERALPIN 2025 product and information offering will draw on the expertise of numerous experts,’ anticipates project manager Stefan Kleinlercher.
