On Monday, March 10, at 9:20 a.m., a cabin on the Golden Eagle Express gondola at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, a ski resort in British Columbia, Canada, collapsed after the suspension failed. The low height at the bottom station limited the damage: the eight people on board were not reported to have suffered serious injuries.

The Golden Eagle Express gondola is one of the resort’s main infrastructures. Built in 2000 by Poma, it operates year-round, including at night, and transports skiers 1,072 meters of vertical elevation over a length of 3,410 meters at a maximum speed of 5.6 m/sec. With 55 cabins, it provides access to most of the ski area with a capacity of 1,200 passengers per hour.
