On March 5, 2025, at approximately 5:00 PM (outside of normal public service hours), a cabin on the 80-passenger double funifor connecting Arabba to Porta Vescovo entered the valley station at speed (estimated at 25 km/h or 7 m/sec) and collided with the limit switch.
The impact injured the sole occupant (a driver) and broke the haul rope (ø 25 mm), which fell along the line, including ski slopes, especially in the lower section.
The lift, built by Doppelmayr Italia in 2005 and with EEI inspection, has a maximum speed of 12.0 m/sec, an hourly capacity of 800 people, a vertical rise of 872 m, a length of 2,677 m, and two towers.
The late hour suggests a test run in manual mode to identify a possible defect, perhaps excluding some safety features. This accident is certainly not the first time the cable car has encountered one. An investigation is underway, and everyone is understandably tight-lipped.
An investigation has also been opened, partly due to an accident at work, which led to the seizure of the lift. However, it was out of service for a considerable period due to a broken haul rope.
